Highlights of 2010 . . . What was your favorite?

10 01 2011

2010 was a busy year for Chyron’s engineering team.  Throughout the year, we launched 3 new products and 2 software versions.  Here’s a recap of the new and exciting things from Chyron.

Channel Box², the world’s best branding and revenue generator, was launched at NAB.  Channel Box² is a channel branding and automated promo system that features 2D/3D design and playout for branding applications, including tickers, crawls, snipes, “bag & tag,” promos, and end credits. The system’s real-time video, graphics effects, clips, and audio can be integrated with automation systems, or the system can be used as a stand-alone branding device. Channel Box² is designed to help broadcasters and playout facilities achieve brilliant station promotions, weather and news tickers, squeeze backs, and other effects quickly, easily, inexpensively, and without jeopardizing quality.

Also unveiled at NAB is Chyron’s LEX³ graphics system. The LEX3 is ideally suited for the smaller broadcaster or mobile facility where advanced features and better performance are important for those about to enter the world of HD graphics. The system includes a host of new options including touch-enabled graphics, integrated clips, DVE and Second Video Input. The LEX³ offers unparalleled scalability to fit graphics needs, technical requirements and budget.

Making its debut this year, Chyron’s award-winning Quintette is a turnkey 3D graphics solution designed for news, sports, and entertainment control rooms. A simple yet elegant and sophisticated system, Quintette offers innovation and value by increasing productivity and efficiency, reducing costs, and streamlining the process of delivering graphic content through a fully digital workflow. Quintette integrates completely with all leading newsroom control systems to support automated or manual playback of four independent graphics channels through one easy-to-navigate user interface.

Later in 2010, Chyron launched Lyric PRO 8, the fastest and most powerful creation and playout tool in the market. Lyric PRO 8 serves up native support for Stereoscopic 3D, Script-less transitions and Touch GraphX, Chyron’s touch enabled graphics. Lyric PRO 8 integrates seamlessly with the entire family of Chyron products.

Leading TV Retailer sit-up shopping Builds New Look on Chyron HyperX³ Graphics System

15 12 2010

Chyron announced that sit-up shopping, one of the largest and fastest-growing TV retailers in the U.K., has upgraded to a HyperX3 on-air graphics system, giving its broadcast presence a new look, thanks to the Chyron Creative Services team. Together, the HyperX3 system and graphics upgrade improve the quality and continuity of on-screen content while making it easier for sit-up shopping staff to enhance programming with motion graphics and 3D text elements. sit-up shopping launched the new look on its bid tv channel as part of a tenth birthday celebration, and the retailer will launch new looks for its price-drop tv and speed auction tv channels in early 2011.

“With their tremendous experience in broadcast graphics, the Chyron team has a deep understanding of how graphics impact and engage television viewers,” said Mark Hall, senior business development manager at sit-up shopping. “We approached Chyron just months before our planned graphics relaunch, and the Creative Services team responded quickly, enabling us to go live and on schedule with a polished, dynamic, and user-friendly new look. The Chyron HyperX3 upgrade and graphics update have given our team a lot of momentum, as well as the tools and motivation to keep improving our broadcasts.”

sit-up shopping boasts three of the most popular digital home shopping channels: bid tv, price-drop tv, and speed auction tv. Broadcast seven days a week, these channels are available to millions of digital homes via Virgin TV, Freeview, Sky, and the Web. Since its launch in 2000, sit-up shopping has appeared on The Sunday Times “Fast Track 100” list and on the Financial Times “Top 50 Creative Businesses” list.

Seeking to maintain its competitive and creative edge, sit-up shopping has taken advantage of the Chyron HyperX3 system’s powerful performance and 3D graphics capabilities to make bid tv text and images pop off the screen. Part of a wholesale overhaul of the bid tv set and on-air look, the new graphical approach also offers a much more visually cohesive product.

“sit-up shopping is one of the world’s most popular TV retailers largely because of its commitment to quality and its success in encouraging viewers to ‘sit up’ and engage,” said Bonnie Barclay, vice president and chief marketing officer at Chyron. “With its new HyperX3 system and graphics scheme, sit-up shopping is equipped to provide crisp, clear 3D text and to control graphics playout and transitions with a new degree of precision.”

Chyron’s flagship on-air graphics system, HyperX3 features seamless creation-to-playout capability, real-time 2D/3D animation, and a host of hardware and software features. The system is scalable to two independent channels and incorporates optional DVEs, clips, and the Lyric PRO 8 advanced creation and playout package, which includes a completely new 3D text rendering engine.

KTBS 3 Wins on Election Night With Live, Interactive Touch Screen Graphics

4 11 2010

Chyron today announced that KTBS 3 of Shreveport, La. brought sophisticated interactive touch screen graphics to its live election night coverage with the first U.S. implementation of Touch GraphX, part of the HyperX³ on-air graphics system. An intuitive and cost-effective solution that allows on-camera talent to control the flow of graphics by simply tapping a display, the Touch GraphX feature added interactive impact to the Louisiana station’s live broadcast.

“The Chyron Touch GraphX gave us an advantage during our election coverage by allowing our anchors to become an integral part of the graphic presentation,” said Dale Cassidy, chief engineer at KTBS 3. “The Touch GraphX was extremely easy to use, and our talented staff was able to create all the graphics we used on election night with only two days of preparation. Considering this was our first exposure to touch screen technology in this capacity, we were extremely pleased not only with the Touch GraphX, but also with the entire HyperX3 on-air graphics system and the Chyron support staff who helped make this endeavor possible.”

KTBS 3 installed its Chyron HyperX³ on-air graphics system, including the award-winning Lyric® PRO 8 motion graphics feature set, during its upgrade to HD broadcasting. The station implemented the Touch GraphX feature especially for the Nov. 2 election. Unlike competing high-end touch screen graphics solutions which require complex programming or scripting, Chyron’s Touch GraphX enables fast, simple association of graphics to hot spots on the screen. This intuitive interface combines with graphics creation templates to simplify preparation for broadcast and live operation by on-camera talent. Because Touch GraphX requires minimal training, broadcasters can introduce more dynamic presentation of graphics with speed and ease.

In preparation for Election Day, Chyron worked closely on site with the KTBS 3 production team to ensure smooth implementation within the existing broadcast workflow and to tune the station’s graphic design for optimal presentation on the touch screen monitor. Anchors used the touch screen graphics to highlight and isolate different races, spotlight competing candidates, and move from those images to actual results.

“The power of Touch GraphX is that its simplicity makes advanced on-air graphics presentation look easy,” said Phil Carmichael, vice president of product marketing at Chyron. “When technology is well-thought out, well-implemented, and attractively priced, as is Touch GraphX, even complex productions are within ready reach for broadcast stations of all sizes.”
