MOOV and MST SYSTEMS Bring Chyron-Based Live Graphics Workflow to the 2011 Open Championship

18 07 2011

Chyron today announced that MOOV Limited and MST SYSTEMS Ltd, are using seven HyperX³ on-air graphics systems to support the BBC’s live coverage of the Open Championship, July 14-17 at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, England. Using the same workflow implemented at the Scottish Open, MOOV and MST SYSTEMS are working together to provide presentation graphics for studio coverage and live scoring graphics throughout the golf tournament.

“Live golf coverage demands perhaps the most diverse assortment of graphics, and this challenge is compounded by the high and constant volume of data being generated,” said Duncan Foot, managing director at MOOV Limited, provider of data-driven graphics for live sports and entertainment broadcasts. “This year we relied solely on Chyron’s HyperX³ on-air graphics systems, which not only provided us with the power required for rich 3D graphics, but also offered the flexibility and interoperability necessary for our partner, MST SYSTEMS, to bring a variety of data into those graphics in real time. MST SYSTEMS’ ability to work quickly and confidently with the Chyron platforms eliminated the need to rebuild and recheck all our graphics, which in turn made for a much simpler and more pleasant tournament.”

MOOV and MST SYSTEMS confirmed their Chyron-based graphics workflow at the Scottish Open prior to implementation for the larger Open Championship. Within this workflow, MOOV created the network’s graphics package and MST SYSTEMS turned those graphics into templates populating them with data ranging from scores, statistics, and standings, ensuring rapid time to air with Chyron HyperX³ systems.

MST SYSTEMS’ familiarity with the HyperX³ allowed the company to turn around graphics templates within just 24 hours. During the tournament, MOOV also used the HyperX³ systems to air headline sequences in which live video from a critical drive, putt, or other stroke were shown with a full-screen graphic in real time without requiring rendering.

“Chyron HyperX³ and HyperX3.1 on-air graphics systems are future-proof solutions that not only provide the power we need at an attractive price point, but also interface well with our own software to support delivery of high-impact data-rich graphics,” said Stuart Paterson-Browne, software development manager at MST SYSTEMS. “The integrated system combining our software with HyperX systems has performed perfectly in all recent events, and we plan to move all of our graphics facilities, including all European Tour, Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, and World Touring Car Championship graphics, over to Chyron systems within the next two years.”

MOOV has become the graphics company of choice for leading broadcasters including BBC, ESPN, AI Jazeera, RTE, ITV, Sky Italia, and Channel 4. MST SYSTEMS has provided graphics and scoring facilities at six Ryder Cups, 11 Open Championships, and more than 1,000 other golf tournaments for the European Tour, Asian Tour, OneAsia tour, China Tour, and the LPGA. Going forward, MOOV and MST SYSTEMS plan to leverage their proven graphics workflow and Chyron systems not only for golf, but also for coverage of other high-profile events such as the 2012 Summer Games in London.

MOOV and MST SYSTEMS Tee Up Scottish Open Graphics With Chyron HyperX³ On-Air Graphics Systems

12 07 2011

Chyron today announced that seven Chyron HyperX3 on-air graphics systems were used for live coverage of the Barclays Scottish Open, July 7-10, at the Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness, Scotland. Throughout the golf tournament, MOOV Limited, provider of data-driven graphics for live sports and entertainment broadcasts, used two HyperX3 systems to provide presentation graphics for the BBC’s domestic feed. MST SYSTEMS Ltd, a specialist in graphics and scoring for golf tournaments, used another five HyperX3 systems for live scoring graphics and playout of custom graphics packages for the world feed and Sky Sports’ feed.

“Golf coverage is extraordinarily demanding in that the number and variety of graphics is enormous, as is the volume of live data driving those graphics,” said Duncan Foot, managing director at MOOV Limited. “Chyron’s HyperX3 systems provide the power required for visually striking 3D graphics, as well as the flexibility to interface with the software systems providing real-time data from around the course.”

MOOV Limited has become the graphics company of choice for leading broadcasters including BBC, ESPN, AI Jazeera, RTE, ITV, Sky Italia, and Channel 4. MST SYSTEMS has provided graphics and scoring facilities at six Ryder Cups, 11 Open Championships, and more than 1,000 other golf tournaments for the European Tour, the Asian Tour, One Asia tour, China Tour, and the LPGA. In delivering data-rich graphics for complex live sports, both MOOV Limited and MST SYSTEMS have come to rely on Chyron’s HyperX3 on-air graphics system.

For the Scottish Open, MOOV Limited created the BBC graphics package and MST SYSTEMS turned those graphics into templates that could be populated with data ranging from scores, statistics, and standings and then taken to air with Chyron systems. MOOV Limited also used the Chyron HyperX3 systems to air headline sequences in which live video from a critical drive, putt, or other stroke were shown with a full-screen graphic in real time without requiring rendering.

“Real-time 3D graphics have become a significant element of our service offering, and Chyron systems provide a stable, well-supported playout platform for these graphics,” said Stuart Paterson-Browne, software development manager at MST SYSTEMS. “Because Chyron systems are so well known across the industry, the HyperX3 and its Lyric software give us the flexibility to use experienced freelance operators and designers to create graphics, thereby freeing up internal developers to concentrate on expanding the services we offer our clients.”

“Our HyperX3 on-air graphics systems give innovative companies such as MOOV and MST SYSTEMS the combination of power and interoperability they need to bring exceptionally rich graphics, populated with dynamic live data, to golf broadcasts,” said Chyron’s Vice President of EMEA Sales, Paul Glasgow. “Telecasts from the Scottish Open this year demonstrated very clearly how MOOV and MST SYSTEMS’s work with leading networks is raising the bar for live event coverage, and it’s exciting that Chyron systems are central to this effort.”

MOOV Aces Through Wimbledon With Chyron Graphics

5 07 2011

Chyron today announced that MOOV Limited, provider of data-driven graphics for live sports and entertainment broadcasts, used the company’s HyperX3 on-air graphics systems to support the BBC’s studio programming at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. Over the two weeks of play at London’s All England Club, the Chyron systems enabled the playout of dynamic 3D-intensive graphics, which MOOV kept current and engaging with the integration of real-time match statistics and the incorporation of live video elements.

“The BBC’s rebranded style was the most important change for this year’s coverage, and Chyron’s graphic systems provide the power necessary to support a new package of visually rich and data-heavy graphics,” said Duncan Foot, managing director at MOOV Limited. “We worked closely with Chyron to ensure a smooth flow of live data and scores into sophisticated on-air graphics, and this partnership made for few issues and a less stressful fortnight.”

MOOV has become the graphics company of choice for leading broadcasters including BBC, ESPN, AI Jazeera, RTE, ITV, Sky Italia, and Channel 4. The company has provided on-air graphics for Wimbledon for the past seven years, but this is the first time the company has relied solely on Chyron graphics equipment. Three HyperX3 systems — along with a graphics control interface engineered by MOOV — supported the BBC domestic feed, and another HyperX3 system supplied by MOOV supported graphics for ESPN STAR Sports.

During the tournament, the graphics created by MOOV were incorporated into all production outside of live tennis. Graphics enriched segments highlighting action in other matches and live scores across the tournament, as well as opening titles, interviews, trailers, and promos. MOOV created an event-specific interface to connect live data — scores, draws, order of play — from the tournament’s IBM scoring system to Chyron graphics playout. In addition to supporting live updates, the Chyron systems allowed MOOV to use headline sequences in which video from a match point could be shown with a full-screen graphic in real time using live video and requiring no rendering. Operators were able to run multiple such headlines in succession.

“Wimbledon has been among the world’s preeminent sporting events since the first tournament was held 125 years ago,” said Michael Wellesley-Wesley, Chyron president and CEO. “We’re pleased that our on-air graphics systems are playing a critical role now as MOOV brings this classic event — with a sharp new look — to today’s professional men’s and women’s tennis fans.”

MOOV installed one HyperX³ system in a studio at the media village outside Buckingham Palace and a second at a temporary studio adjacent to Westminster Abbey, and together the Chyron systems will supply both studio graphics and graphics for the wedding service on April 29.

“We rely on Chyron’s HyperX³ for many of the U.K.’s highest profile live sports and entertainment events, and the power and flexibility of the single-box system make it a good fit for our work on the royal wedding as well,” said Duncan Foot, co-founder of MOOV. “Incorporating premade graphics from the BBC into the HyperX³ and Lyric graphics software is quite simple, and the system’s template-based approach to live graphics playout will make it easy to enrich the broadcast with rich visuals and timely details.”

Ideal for live sports channels, news stations, and outside broadcasts, the extremely fast, powerful, and easy-to-use HyperX³ system features seamless creation-to-playout capability, real-time 2D/3D animation, built-in stereoscopic-ready 3D, and a host of hardware and software features. With the product’s “scriptless” conditional intelligent transitions, Lyric PRO 8 improves the on-air look with ease and accuracy.  During the royal wedding, MOOV will use the Chyron systems to enhance live video with specially branded graphics providing details about people and places and to provide ongoing updates through informational tickers and crawls. In addition, MOOV will be showing animated maps to illustrate the route Kate will take on her way to Westminster Abbey and will broadcast messages, photos, and videos from viewer emails, texts, and Twitter posts.

“MOOV’s ability to consistently deliver and innovate using the latest in Chyron graphics and technology is world-class and should be commended,” said Paul Glasgow, vice president of sales, EMEA at Chyron. “We wish MOOV and everyone associated with this monumental event a successful day. I have every confidence that the output will be a credit to all involved.”

2010 EMEA PR Review

18 01 2011

The year started out with a bang when Chyron supplied 3D stereoscopic graphics for the first-ever live broadcast of the Six Nations Rugby match of England vs. Wales. The broadcast from Twickenham Stadium on February 6th was viewed in more than 40, 3D-equipped cinemas around the UK and excited fans were able to share the best seat in the house.  Following the success of the first game, Chyron worked with Wurmers, SIS Live and Inition on the 27th of February match.

Later in the year, Chyron made history providing graphics for the first live stereoscopic 3D concert by German hip hop group Die Fantastischen Vier, also known as FANTA4. The concert managed by Mitteldeutsches Multimediazentrum Halle was held at Steintor-Varieté in Halle an der Saale on September 28th. Chyron’s revolutionary on-air graphics were the backbone of the stereoscopic experience and were displayed in over 90 cinemas in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg. FANTA4 fans had the opportunity to see every graphic pop through the screen while being treated to a front row experience.

UK broadcast graphics company “MOOV,” was one of the first to realize the potential of Lyric PRO 8 in EMEA. In October 2010,  “MOOV” used Chyron’s HyperX graphics infrastructure for the Wimbledon tennis championship and prior to that during the summer Commonwealth Games for the BBC.  The biggest benefit of version 8 for “MOOV” during Wimbledon was to easily create “Seeds Boards” with corresponding animations before they actually knew the winners using Intelligent Conditional Transitions.  For the Commonwealth Games, “MOOV” created an original new “Coming Up” sequence for the multi-sport event that opened up with the New Delhi Skyline and numerous kites flying in the sky. Using the powerful, Inherit State feature, the sequence was able to display any country’s flags in any order, at any time with “turn-on-a-dime” flexibility.

In September, Chyron announced that they powered the newly launched Sky Sports News in HD, Europe’s first HD sports news channel. This latest push into the world of HD was yet another example of Sky’s dedication to broadcast excellence. This also marks the third time that Sky Sports has employed the use of Lyric PRO 8.  Chyron is a long time partner of Sky Sports News and has been an integral partner in the launch of the HD channel. Chyron’s involvement in this latest venture went beyond providing the graphic systems; Chyron’s dedicated Creative Services team worked closely with the Sports team to integrate the new captivating graphical look of the channel.

Wrapping up a successful year of EMEA PR, Chyron announced in December that sit-up shopping, one of the largest and fastest-growing TV retailers in the U.K., upgraded to a HyperX³ on-air graphics system, giving its broadcast presence a new look, thanks to the Chyron Creative Services team. Together, the HyperX³ system and graphics upgrade improve the quality and continuity of on-screen content while making it easier for sit-up shopping staff to enhance programming with motion graphics and 3D text elements. sit-up shopping launched the new look on its bid tv channel as part of a tenth birthday celebration.

Lyric PRO 8 and HyperX³ to Enable MOOV with Full On-air Graphics
Capability During Coverage of the Commonwealth Games

Chyron is powering the graphics for the Commonwealth Games, the international event currently taking place in New Delhi, India.  U.K.-based broadcast graphics company MOOV is utilizing Chyron’s Lyric PRO 8 graphics infrastructure for this year’s Commonwealth Games on the BBC.

Lyric PRO 8 is the ultimate enterprise authoring tool that provides the power to create sophisticated graphic templates with incomparable ease and flexibility across the entire Chyron product spectrum. Lyric PRO 8 features groundbreaking technologies, including native support for Stereoscopic 3D, scriptless Intelligent Conditional Transitions and Touch GraphX.

MOOV has created an original new “Coming Up” sequence for the multi-sport event that opens up with the New Delhi Skyline with numerous kites flying in the sky.  Using the powerful, Inherit State feature, the sequence can display any country’s flags in any order, at any time with “turn-on-a-dime” flexibility. This saves both time and resources by eliminating the need to program all possible transition scenarios.

“I have no doubt that this is an innovative sequence never seen on TV before – it combines cutting-edge technology with amazing creative flair to produce a stunning real-time sequence,” said MOOV Managing Director Duncan Foot. “We will of course be producing a wide range of graphical sequences during the 11-day games and have absolute confidence that Chyron will reliably deliver quality graphics throughout.  We will be on air for 12 hours every day, providing live graphics in HD and also supporting six AVID edit suites.”

“MOOV has been Chyron’s partner for many years,” added Chyron’s Vice President, EMEA Sales Paul Glasgow.  “We are delighted to be part of such an impressive international event.”
